Over £1,800 Awarded to Support Local Community Projects in Orrell, Upholland, Highfield and Shevington
More than £1,800 has been awarded to local groups and individuals working to make Orrell, Shevington and the surrounding areas greener, more creative and more connected.
The latest community funding event brought together passionate local people to pitch their ideas and secure small pots of funding to help bring their projects to life. It was fantastic to hear about the wide range of initiatives designed to benefit residents, improve local spaces and create new opportunities for the community.
Community funding for projects in Wigan
We are delighted to announce that every group and individual who pitched was awarded the funding they requested!
Among the successful projects, Wildoria CIC will deliver anti-scamming sessions to help older people stay safe, while Reclaim Recreate will run woodwork workshops to encourage creativity and practical skills.
Appley Bridge Creatives will use its funding to establish a creative writing group, offering opportunities for people to share their stories and develop their talents. Meanwhile, Shevington Bowling Club will invest in a new shelter or bench, maintenance and children's bowling equipment.
Outdoor spaces groups are improving the enviromnment
There is plenty of green-fingered activity to look forward to, too! Highfield Clean & Green will purchase plants, planters, compost and gardening equipment, while Cleaner Greener Upholland will support bulb planting and bulb planters.
Local residents Kyle and Ben will also brighten up the Pemberton/Orrell area with planters and bulbs, helping bring more colour to local streets and spaces.
Friends of Lawns Wood and Mindful Events will be working on a Halloween event and setting up a friends group to support this valued local woodland in Crooke Village/Standish Lower Ground.
Community spirit is alive and well!
These projects show how even small amounts of funding can make a big difference when combined with local enthusiasm, creativity and community spirit.
Our GRoW events are welcoming and not just about funding much-needed community projects but also about networking and growing collaborations between the many different groups across Wigan.
A huge thank you to our Orrell & Shevington members for organising the event and providing refreshments, and to everyone who took part.
We can't wait to see these fantastic ideas grow and flourish!
