More cash for communities!

Another fantastic Conversations and Cash event was held in March 2026 – our SIXTH event!
It was great to see some returning members and to welcome new members too.
We heard feedback from the people who had previously been granted funding at our last event — some of whom had not spent all of their money for one reason or another.
Their projects, from bat talks to Halloween walks, had all benefited from the cash.
We voted on what they should do with the remaining money.
Funding grassroots community projects in Wigan
Then, after pie (of course!), we heard some pitches and voted to award:
£250 to Jessica and her dedicated teacher for their eco group, which would fund a reflection bench at local high school Dean Trust Wigan
£250 shared with Julie for art classes at CommUnity Corner with some good tips shared to aid thinking about sustainability
£1000 shared with Friends of Stockley Park and match funded by the local councillors for a basketball hoop in the park
£400 shared with Wigan Wellbeing Festival for transport with a hope that next year will see this sustainable.
We also had a book, about diabetes in children, donated by Nic and young member Amyra. The book was made with local author Alex Winstanley.
Thanks to Clare for the pies, Vicky for the peas, Charlotte and Nic for hosting, Alice for opening up the venue and everyone for getting involved.

Strengthening networks in Wigan communities
There were lots of offers of help in the form of the practical shifting of stuff, sharing of information/ideas and resources too.
If you have a community project which is currently a pipe dream, join us and it could become a reality!
Thanks to the Greater Manchester Live Well Spring Festival for investing in the March event, and Wigan Borough Community First for funding this and other projects.
