Basketball hoop installed at local park

GRoW recently received a lovely email from one of our valued members, the Friends of Stockley Park group.

The group is based in Appley Bridge, Wigan and has made many improvements over the last few years, such as installing raised beds and securing funding for equipment.

Their latest project, a basketball hoop, was the subject of their pitch at our March 2026 Conversations and Cash event. They successfully bid for £1,000 and the project was part-funded by local councillors' Brighter Borough fund.

Sarah and Laura from Friends of Stockley Park said: "On behalf of Friends of Stockley Park, we would like to express our sincere thanks for your generous support in funding the new basketball hoop, which was successfully installed today.

"This project has been something we have been working towards for some time, and thanks to your contribution, it has now become a reality. The new facility will provide local children and young people with another opportunity to be active, socialise and enjoy the park.

"The installation of the basketball hoop is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local organisations, councillors and community groups work together. It also shows that hard work, dedication and perseverance really do pay off.

"We are incredibly grateful for your support and investment in our local community. We know that this new addition will be enjoyed by many residents for years to come.

Thank you once again for helping us make this project happen."

If you have a community idea and would like to discuss pitching at our next event, sign up as a member and keep an eye on your emails.
