PITCHING GUIDELINES
Guidelines for Pitching at GRoW
If you have contacted us about your idea and we have invited you to pitch, there is a quick form to fill in for bids of up to £250.
How to Pitch

At the GRoW event, each pitcher has 5 minutes to make their presentation. The pitch needs to cover:
-
Who you are.
-
Your idea.
-
Why the idea is important.
-
How you know it's wanted and needed. (Who will take part? How do you know they will?)
-
How much will it cost in total and how much you would like from GRoW and who is covering any other costs.
-
What you will spend the money on – be specific and itemise each costing.
-
Whether there will be a charge for people to attend.
-
Any safety issues that you’ve needed to consider.
-
How you will keep this going.
Once you have pitched, people who have been participating will be able to put forward questions for a max of 10 minutes. The event convenors will host this in order to keep within time.
After questions, each participant will vote for your pitch. There are 4 ways to vote.
-
Agree to fully fund
-
Partially fund
-
Like the idea, but not ready
-
Do not support the idea
Once all pitches have been heard, the totals agreed are added up and shared with the group. Another round may be necessary to explore how much to allocate to ideas that have been agreed to be partially funded.
If the total amounts to more than is in the pot then the group decides together how to share it
The group does not need to allocate the full pot and can carry monies over to the next event.
Once agreed, pitchers invoice Grass Roots of Wigan for the monies and commit to return to the next event to feed back, or provide written/audio/video feedback for the next event about how the money was used and what happened or was created as a consequence.
Need more funding?
Applications are now open for the larger GRoW pots of £500 - £1,000

The first pitching event for larger pots will take place on Sunday 8th June, 2025 at Fur Clemt.
To be eligible for this funding round, you must:
-
Have completed a full round of the GRoW process (pitched an idea and fed back to the group at a following session)
AND -
Be part of a grassroots project with less than £35,000 income in your most recent full year of accounts (whichever is your reporting year).
How to Apply:
We’ve kept the process flexible to reflect different ways of working. You can submit your idea in one of three ways:
-
Using a guidance sheet and returning to us by email.
-
Completing a short form here.
-
Creating a short film or voice recording (no longer than 3 minutes) and sending a link via email.
The closing date for submissions is the end of the day on Saturday 25th May.
We’re keen to stay rooted in a spirit of collaboration rather than competition, so we’re inviting people to apply with the ethos of “take what you need, and leave some for others.”
There is a total of £3,000 available in this round, and we may choose to allocate the full amount at the upcoming session if the right ideas come through.

Just came back from attending my first event with Grass Roots of Wigan – GRoW, and it was more than I could have imagined!
The group was incredibly supportive and restored my faith in humanity completely. Thank you for creating these wonderful opportunities for us all in the community x
