I was thinking about how long it had been since I've been out...and hearing other women say the same. But also how uncomfortable we feel in clubs sometimes...older than everyone, not as pissed, not necessarily feeling safe to get a taxi at the end of a night etc. And sometimes if you've not been out for ages, things have changed in your life so you may be a little more isolated...the idea of going out at night is scary!
So...what about we put on a night out, just for women, we get some live bands or a dj to play music...we have a quieter room available, seats (I hate having to stand) some friendly hosts to make sure women are safe, and a mini bus to take everyone home.
It wouldn't be free, we wouldn't provide drinks etc as understandably most venues make their cash off the bar. But, we could make it easier and more inclusive by careful organisation and support to women who might find going out too scary.
I've been part of doing sober gatherings at Fur Clemt which are great, but wanted to embrace the fact that it's not wrong to have a drink, if you're an adult then you can choose ... and Fur Clemt isn't exactly the same atmosphere as Manchester Academy.
So as an addition to the women's activities going on across the borough, is there maybe a space for this too?
This sounds great. Also if they are not too late that would be lovely, starting earlier maybe at 5 or 6pm? SO we can be in bed by 10pm ha!
